LIT Flexible Learning

LIT offers a wide range of programmes in its Flexible Learning portfolio across all of its different academic Departments such as IT, Sport, Business, Applied & Social Sciences.

LIT were not happy with the look, style and usability of their old website or the process of managing & updating courses and content. We were tasked with creating a simple & professional, modern looking, mobile-responsive site which is easy to use, accessible & also search engine friendly.  Our course management solution can be seen in the figure below.

The main focus of the website was the courses and the ability for users to quickly search a course in a particular location. From this we decided to place our custom built course search to be the first feature that grabs a users attention. This evolved into an advanced course search and filter application with LIT having full control over courses through the easy to use website administration.

Accessibility was also an important factor in the design of this site as many visitors to the site may be mature students or of older age and so we’ve also included the ability for users to increase font-size via our text resizer functionality in the header. The Call-To-Action areas encourage the site visitor to explore further and book a course.

Not only have we made the site easy for users, but we have also enhanced the Content Management System to be even more easy to use for Administrators to update & manage courses. Administrators can simply add a course and assign it to a department, location & also give it a status of Course Full or Apply Now in just a few clicks.

Technical Details

The site was coded using the WordPress API, Bootstrap,  HTML5, CSS & jQuery.
