Summer Highlights at Irish Web HQ: A Season of Application Development
At Irish Web HQ, summer is always a busy and exciting period. This year has been no exception, with our team deeply involved in a range of projects that showcase our expertise in application development, web design, site management, and payment solutions. From improving e-commerce experiences to building custom intranet applications, we’ve been proud to help businesses across Ireland and beyond make the most of their digital platforms.
In this post, we’re highlighting some of the key projects we’ve worked on over the summer, giving a behind-the-scenes look at how our development team applies practical skills in PHP, WordPress, and modern web technologies.
Mr Binman – Comprehensive Website & Application Maintenance
One of our ongoing partnerships is with Mr Binman, a leading waste management company. Over the summer, our work has focused on the full technical management of their digital assets. This has included:
- Website management – ensuring the main website remains fast, secure, and accessible for users.
- DNS and hosting – handling domain settings and hosting infrastructure so their services remain stable and reliable.
- Application updates – making sure all backend software is patched and secure.
- Ongoing maintenance – proactive monitoring to prevent downtime or vulnerabilities.
Reliable website performance is essential for companies like Mr Binman, where customers depend on clear communication and easy access to services. By managing these areas, Irish Web HQ helps ensure a seamless online experience for both staff and customers.
CleanWheelieBins.com – Smarter Checkout and Payment System
Another interesting project is the current redevelopment of the checkout process for CleanWheelieBins.com, a bin cleaning service with a growing online presence.
The project required a fresh application development approach to build a checkout system that could calculate total costs dynamically. Customers have different needs based on bin size, service frequency, and other options. The new system:
- Allows for fine-grained user selections.
- Calculates accurate costs in real time.
- Integrates secure payment processing.
By building this new checkout flow, we’re making the ordering process faster, clearer, and more user-friendly. It’s a great example of how custom web development can be tailored directly to a business’s unique service model.
BBLCO – Intranet Application Development for Product Spec Management
Perhaps the most technically demanding project this summer has been the intranet website application we are building for BBLCO. This system is designed to manage product specifications in a secure, structured environment.
Key features include:
- A full CRUD system (Create, Read, Update, Delete) for managing product information.
- Integration with MSSQL for robust database management.
- Built using PHP, leveraging its flexibility for backend logic (learn more about PHP here).
- Development on IIS Server rather than Apache, giving it’s own config and environment challenges.
- PDF generation so staff can produce standardized documents.
- Barcode generation for quick product identification.
This project is still in development, but it demonstrates how application development can be harnessed to create custom tools that streamline internal workflows and increase accuracy.
Your Virtual Race Trail Project – Payment & PDF Improvements
We’ve also been busy refining the Your Virtual Race Trail Project, a platform that brings sporting events online. Our work focused on improving two key areas:
- Updating Payment APIs to ensure transactions remain secure, modern, and reliable.
- Enhancing PDF generation using mPDF, so race participants receive well-designed, accurate documents such as race bib numbers and certificates.
By modernizing these systems, we’ve strengthened both the backend and user-facing experience, ensuring the project continues to meet the needs of athletes and organizers alike.

DunvaraDesign.com – Fresh Visuals and Functionality
For DunvaraDesign.com, we carried out a visual redesign that brings their website more in line with modern aesthetics and user expectations. In addition, we made improvements to product pages, category layouts, and blog functionality.
The goal was to give Dunvara Design a stronger digital presence that better reflects their creativity and expertise. This combination of design and functionality work shows how application development and frontend design go hand in hand.
LASNTG – E-Learning System Management
Finally, we’ve continued our management of LASNTG’s e-learning platform at lasntg.com. This project involves:
- Course development – expanding and refining training content.
- User management – handling enrollments, access, and user roles.
- Grade management – ensuring learner progress is tracked effectively.
- Hosting and maintenance – keeping the system secure and reliable.
E-learning systems are only as strong as the infrastructure and content that supports them. Our ongoing work ensures LASNTG can deliver high-quality training experiences to learners nationwide.
As a related service we manage and maintain the lasntg.ie website which requires robust and powerful hosting for the large numbers of monthly visitors.
Conclusion: A Busy Summer of Application Development
Looking back at these projects, we can see that application development is at the heart of everything we do at Irish Web HQ. Whether it’s building a new intranet system, refining a checkout flow, or maintaining a mission-critical e-learning platform, our goal is always the same: to deliver reliable, user-friendly, and future-proof solutions.
This summer has been full of diverse challenges that required a mix of technical skills, from PHP programming to WordPress design, and from database management to PDF generation. Each project reflects our commitment to providing clients with tailored solutions that make their digital systems work smarter.
As we move into autumn, we’re excited to keep pushing forward, taking on new projects, and continuing to help businesses grow through the power of technology. We also offer Enterprise and professional hosting solutions at webhq.ie.
