Ways to boost sales on your ecommerce website

Target your existing customers

Businesses go through periods of highs and lows and it’s common for people to get discouraged and begin coming up with ways of getting new customers.

Instead, it’s good to focus attention on customer retention. An interesting survey by Marketing Charts showed some interesting statistics which in short show that;

  • 1 in every 4 visitors will return to your site
  • 7 in 10 return within a week
  • Loyal shoppers are worth 5 times more than first time shoppers

Our team at Irish Web HQ routinely add a system on our clients ecommerce site where every purchase a customer makes will translate to points on their account. These points translate to a reduction on their purchase.

Videos are Key

In fact, over half of marketers around the world regard video as the type of content with the best return on investment according to a recent report by Insivia

Not only this, shoppers who view videos are nearly twice as likely to purchase compared to shoppers who don’t. Average users will also spend 88% more time on a page with a video than one without a video.

Photos with testimonials

It’s very important that you put a picture beside a quote or testimonial. Nobody is a big fan of a nameless person. It’s not convincing enough.

Be mobile responsive

It’s not enough to assume that all traffic to your website will be through a desktop/laptop. Personally whenever I’m purchasing a product, 99% of the time it will be on my mobile.

If your site looks poor on mobile, this should be number one on your TODO list as it will certainly turn potential customers away and essentially ignoring half or more of your customers as over half of all internet traffic is now coming from a mobile device. Research shows that 62% of smartphones users have made a purchase in the last 6 months

Show your top sellers

When users first visit your site, it can sometimes be daunting on what to buy. They may not even have any idea what their interested in buying but just window shopping.

Showing your top sellers can show them what people are buying the most. You can even pop in a few of your more expensive products (Even if their not top sellers)

Seasonal Promotions

Santas on the way once more! As we all know, this is the time of year where people are putting a little more away than usual. Maybe some are beginning to stock up on presents now. This can be a small window of opportunity that you must grab. Be sure to send out emails to your subscribers notifying them of some of your holiday sales.

BUY QUICK

All to often you could be browsing a website and under a product you notice “1 remaining” or even on airline / hotel websites you might see “2 remaining at this price”

Let your customers know there’s only 2 or 3 remaining ( even if it’s not the case) as customers fear for missing out on a good bargain

Another trick is to email your customers with a flash sale ending at midnight tonight for example. This creates a sense of urgency and will hopefully trigger a customer to buy on impulse for fear of missing out and paying more at a later stage.

Payment Options

Always have a variety of payment options available. Irish Web HQ can include a variety of payment gateways on the ecommerce system such as Credit / Debit card, Stripe, Paypal, Apple Pay,  Giftcard and more.

In conclusion just remember not to keep focusing on new members. Remember that customer retention is just as important as customer acquisition.

Demonstrate your products through a video. A video will be remembered more so than reading text.

Don’t be faceless, add phototgraphs to your testimonials.

Create a sense of urgency around your sales and don’t forget seasonal promotions.

Promote your top selling items and most of all make sure your site is mobile friendly or risk losing half of your customers.
