BBLCo Intranet Web Application Development

We designed and developed a secure intranet system for Borrisoleigh Bottling Company to centralise and modernise their internal operations. The objective was to replace disconnected manual workflows with a unified internal platform that would serve as a single source of truth for production, stock control, labelling, and product traceability.

This web application was built using PHP on the backend, with a custom SCSS and JavaScript frontend. The system was deployed entirely within the company’s internal network, ensuring that sensitive production and inventory data remained securely isolated from external access. This intranet-first approach allowed the business to maintain full control over its data while significantly improving operational efficiency.

A key component of the system was its custom authentication layer. I implemented a secure login system with role-based access control, ensuring that different staff members only had access to the features relevant to their responsibilities. This helped improve security, reduce user error, and streamline daily workflows across departments.

The application provided a full suite of operational tools, including bottle labelling management, stock tracking, itinerary scheduling, and best-before date monitoring. These features were designed to work together as a cohesive system, eliminating duplication of data and reducing inconsistencies across departments.

At the core of the system was a Microsoft SQL Server (MSSQL) backend, chosen for its reliability and suitability for structured enterprise data. Data integrity was a major priority, and the system was designed to ensure that all records were consistently updated and synchronised across modules. This created a dependable central source of truth for all operational data.

To support business continuity, I implemented automated scheduled backups, ensuring that data was regularly and securely preserved without requiring manual intervention. In addition, the system included functionality to export product data into PDF format, enabling easy sharing, printing, and reporting for internal use and auditing purposes.

One of the most impactful outcomes of the project was the significant time savings achieved across daily operations. By consolidating multiple processes into a single intranet platform, staff were able to reduce administrative workload and eliminate repetitive data entry tasks. The custom UX/UI design I created also improved usability, making the system intuitive for end users across different departments.

Overall, this project demonstrates our ability to design and deliver full-stack intranet solutions that solve real-world operational challenges, combining secure architecture, thoughtful UX design, and efficient backend systems into a scalable web application.
